Jill
Harman CYT/RYT/TMT:
Jill Harman became interested in Yoga
after being
introduced
to it by a friend.
The practice went from "yeah yeah I am
doing it" to " OMG I'm doing it!" With
humble beginnings on Lake Ave to "Good Karma Garage"
on Rewill Dr (all you garage junkies know Salutations to Blue Moon)
and now Yin Thai Yoga on Hadley Rd, many hours and then years spent on the
mat, studying with all different styles of teachers you can expect an
eclectic mix when you attend one of Jill's classes. |
|
As Jill will tell you "There is nothing romantic about starting a
yoga practice." The first several weeks entail everything from shaking, sweating and crying to
the sweet sweet final relaxation of Savasana. (everyone's favorite asana) No amount
of explaining can prepare you for the shock of realizing how much your arms weigh when
you start a yoga practice. When a new student attends class, they can be sure to
be encouraged and supported because Jill never wants to forget what "a
beast" downward dog was and sometimes still is. Come with a open heart and be prepared to be
uplifted by the
beautiful and challenging practice of yoga.

Kristina McComb
CYT/RYT
Kristina has
been practicing yoga since 2001, when she attended her first
class in the fitness center at her workplace. After
attending that class, she immediately knew that yoga was
something that would become a very important physical and
mental part of her life. Learning how to truly go inside
yourself and concentrate on your breath, body and what you
feel, is one of the things that she really enjoys about
yoga, and she feels that yoga came into her life at just the
right time to truly appreciate all of its benefits. “We have
so many things that cause stress and distraction in our
lives and we really need to make time to just remember
ourselves. Yoga is a great way to do that, and feel good
about yourself at the same time. I especially love that yoga
is a non-competitive activity. |
Everyone works
at their own level and explores their own possibilities, and
the friendships you make along they way are very special.”
After taking
classes for a couple of years, Kristina decided that she’d
like to expand her own knowledge of yoga, and also be able
to better share it with others. She received her Level 1
certification from YogaFit at the end of 2003, and has since
then been teaching Adult and Kids Yoga classes, as well as a
Senior Chair Yoga class at a local nursing home. Kristina
received her Yoga Alliance certification in February of
2006! Congratulations Kristina on a job well done.

Terri
Sterneman CYT/RYT
I began practicing yoga at the YMCA
during September 2004 as a way to reduce
stress and increase fitness. My stress
level did go down. My strength and
endurance increased. And, I found out
that I really enjoy yoga classes and the
peaceful energy that follows. I became
a serious yoga devotee. Soon practices
just 2 times each week were not enough,
so in January I added practices with
Jill and Susie at their Yin Thai Yoga
studio.
Soon,
even this was not enough, I wanted to
share my love of yoga with others, so I
began to study for my yoga teacher’s
certification, completing my Yoga
Alliance 200 CYT/RYT Teacher’s Training
in August 2006.
You don’t need to be flexible, strong,
have exceptional balance or tremendous
endurance to enjoy yoga; however, these
are some of the benefits we reap when we
“practice” yoga. I hope that you not
only benefit from the physical aspects
of yoga, but also enjoy peace and
contentment along your yoga journey.

Abel Harman CYT/RYT
... My journey with yoga began in
1998 with a searching mind, an overtaxed and
overweight body, and a spirit that was wanting
more... "When the student is ready, the teacher
will appear". Out of the blue, yoga was introduced
to me. As soon as I saw one demonstration of a
basic series of postures I was "hooked". Oh how I
remember those early days, I could barely bend over.
Touching my toes or the floor was much more than
impossible !!!
Years
later I look back with wonder and amazement at the
Mind/Body/Spirit change that has occurred for me. In
my classes we will always remember those beginning
days and use them as a foundation to build
I have
a background as an electronic engineer, a computer
scientist and a continuing student of philosophy,
theology and physics. I encourage everyone to come
to a class and see if yoga can fill some part of
your journey through this life.
Lindsey Britt
I've been
practicing yoga
for ten years,
certified at the
Sivananda
Vedanta Yoga
Ashram in 1999,
Certified in
Ashtanga Yoga by
Manju Jois in
2004. Completed
Level One in
Thai Bodywork,
as well as Hands
Free workshop in
July 2007, and
plan to attend
Level Three in
January 2008. I
first fell in
love with
the fun yoga
is. I enjoy
most of all to
see people start
to except
themselves and
to except their
limitations.
Yoga is humbling
and empowering
it allows us to
feel more human
in our own skin.
